Happy New Year and Welcome 2018!

It’s that time again.  Time to reflect on the year just past and the year we’ve just entered.  2017 is gone and 2018 is now one day old.  So let’s have a frank talk about what’s happened and what’s being written down to work on for the new year.

I will not call 2017 a failed year for me.  Instead what I will call it was the beginning of what I want to achieve.  I started a podcast that had an effect on several people’s lives and I still remain in touch with several of them.  I’ve evaluated some products and made some recommendations when have helped some of my listeners.  I’ve learned quite a lot about myself and what I want to do with my writing, my podcasts and my blogs.  But 2017 was also a very difficult year for me.  I did not lose weight like I wanted to.  In fact, what I had lost, I’ve gained back.  The number of podcasts I wanted to do did not happen for various reasons, mostly work related and the number of hours I was working.  My left knee that was surgically repaired seems to be giving me fits to the point that I fear I will not be able to ever run again.

But I will persevere.  Something I read today put it very pointedly for me.  What do you call a baseball player who fails 70 percent of the time?  An all star.  Remember that as you read my blog throughout this new year.

2018 is a new start, a blank slate for me and I will echo the title of my very first podcast right here, right now.  New Year, New You!  So here are my resolutions and goals for 2018.

Weight Loss

I’m still planning on losing the weight I’ve gained since my weight loss surgery back in 2012, but I will have to take it more slowly now, especially since my left knee is becoming worrisome to me.  Running is out of the picture, but using the elliptical, walking, hiking and biking are still in the picture.  My goal for this year is to get down to 250 pounds.  After that is achieved, then I can look at losing more.  That’s an average of 6 pounds a month or a 1.5 pounds a week.  Is that doable?  I believe so and that’s what I’m shooting for.  I will get to my original goal weight of 200, but it will take more time.


I’ve grown to enjoy podcasting and plan on doing even more this year, but will do with more realistic goals in mind.  I realize that doing a podcast every week is difficult, especially with the number of hours I was working.  Also, coming up with the material to maintain a weekly podcast is more difficult than I thought it would be and I LIKE to write!  So I will still be shooting for a weekly podcast, but will be producing at least four shows in advance, just in case something does happen, I’ll have the episodes ready to go!  Look for my podcasts to start back in the next couple of weeks!


I will be doing more reviews in the near future, from product reviews to book reviews.  Matter of fact, one of the first reviews will be of a book I just started reading called The Four-Pack Revolution How You Can Aim Lower, Cheat On Your Diet, and Still Lose Weight and Keep It Off by Chael Sonnen and Ryan Parsons.  I want to have the review up for you to read in the next three weeks.  Look for more after that!

So for now, it’s on to a better, more productive 2018 and goodbye to the roller coaster that was 2017.  I look forward to sharing the journey of this year with you.
